Latest Updates from Our Project:

Status Update + New Bag Look
about 6 years ago – Sat, Mar 28, 2020 at 06:47:29 PM

Hello apples,

As you know, things are a bit hectic in the world right now. Nonetheless, I've still been pushing Pineapple forward. There is a high chance that all games being produced this year, not just Pineapple, will be delayed. It may be unavoidable, but I will still do whatever I can to keep things on track. Now a rapid fire update!

  • Our graphic designer is working on the graphic design.
  • I'm deciding between two manufacturing companies. Waiting on final samples.
  • BackerKit is almost ready.
  • Metal designs are being finalized.
  • Pins are being ordered within the next few weeks.
  • Guest designer questions are coming in soon. The one's I've read are amazing.

The thing on my mind right now is still the bag! I was at a coffee shop called intelligentsia in LA a month ago and saw these.

Granted, those are too big, but that color and printing directly onto the bag is sooo nice. I'm investigating this approach now and will keep you posted!

Please stay safe, stay inside, and play some fun games to stay entertained.

What's Next? BackerKit!
about 6 years ago – Wed, Feb 19, 2020 at 09:38:44 PM

Hello apples,

So we funded. Great! Now what? BackerKit! Surveys will be coming as quickly as possible. Sit tight knowing the following work is already moving forward.

  • Collecting questions from and paying guest designers
  • Graphic Designing
  • Picking a bag color
  • Making some master Pineapple metal models
  • Making some rubber molds
  • Making 100 metal Pineapples and finishing them in gold!
  • Making some sweet pins

I viewed black as a placeholder bag color that could work long term. Now I'm on the fence with a few different colors. The current apple of my eye is this gorgeous approach.

All Stretch Goals Unlocked (...and here is why)
about 6 years ago – Wed, Feb 05, 2020 at 12:55:00 PM

Hello apples,

I think we all fall into grooves at points in our lives and careers, and recognizing when you do is important. When it comes to creating games, I think we need to be hyper aware of what we are doing to ensure we are pushing the medium forward, both as creators and consumers. This is where good ol' Patrick Leder comes in.

I've known Patrick for many years now. We both had dragon games "kickstart" where we are today (Dragoon and Vast), though we've taken different paths. I've shifted heavily towards consulting while he focused on running an amazing studio with a killer team. Their most recent game was Oath, and yesterday, he posted an update. You can read the whole thing here, but this part really got to me.

As an industry, we have fallen into a groove. Stretch goals, minis, and exclusives have become what creators lean towards when creating campaigns and also what people expect when backing. Even when they don't make sense for the game. Do I think those things are inherently bad? No, not when done properly, but they aren't essential for creating an amazing game.

As creators and consumers, I think we all need to recognize this groove we've fallen into and see how we can get out of it. I believe focusing on serving the game and what the game means/needs is the best place to start. From there, see what's possible.

Now...I know my weird little card game means very little in the grand scheme of gaming. Nonetheless, I wanted to share this with the 200+ of you who decided to back because it's important to me. I made Pineapple because I think it's fun and I wanted to work with friends doing a weird thing. Including stretch goals was me falling into a groove. So let's step out of that groove.

ALL GUEST DESIGNER CARDS UNLOCKED

The entire lineup of guest designers is so damn talented, and now these 5 beautiful people are part of it. Their history of game design speaks for itself in ways that I definitely can't put into words. But what I can say is they are all great people and it warms my heart that they are taking moments out of their crazy busy lives to make something weird with me.

Thank you all for the support in bringing this game to life. We're going to make a thing together and it's going to be awesome :)

Pin Add-on!
about 6 years ago – Mon, Feb 03, 2020 at 08:06:18 AM

Hello apples,

Last week, I enlisted the talents of our artist Heather Vaughan to make us a dope pin. And of course, she delivered in a big way!

Also, I've shifted the stretch goal for Jordan Draper's card. There was a valiant effort to get the retweets, but I want to ensure stretch goals are achievable. So now, if we hit $2,250, both Eric Slauson and Jordan Draper's cards unlock!
